2010 Hollywood Walk of Fame Recipients AnnouncedA Listing of Celebrities Nominated to Receive a Star in 2010
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has released the listing of celebrities and entertainment icons who will be receiving stars on the Walk of Fame for 2010.
Receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a major highlight in any celebrity's career, as it serves as recognition of their achievements by both peers and the public fanbase. Each “star” is cast in bronze, with the name of each artist and a distinctive emblem identifying in which of the five categories -- Motion Pictures, Television, Radio, Recording or Live Theatre -- the recipient has been honored. Each bronze star is then embedded in pink terrazzo and surrounded by charcoal terrazzo squares. Though in the early days of the Walk a nominee might get more than one star, if they got nominated in more than one category, that practice was eliminated a few decades ago. Now the only way to receive more than one star is if the recipient is first awarded as a member of a group, and then later on for solo achievements. Musicians Diana Ross and Michael Jackson are two such examples, having also been awarded stars for their work with The Supremes and The Jacksons, respectively. The Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2010The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has a special "Walk of Fame Committee" that decides from a batch of nominations each each year and also decides on the location for each star. On average, about twenty-five recipients are chosen per year to receive the honor. For 2010, the 50th anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, here are the chosen recipients: MOTION PICTURES:

Viewing a Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony The actual date and location for each ceremony is usually announced two weeks or less ahead of time, but the events are free to witness, though it may be difficult to get a decent viewing spot. The ceremonies are usually heavily attended by worldwide media and security can be difficult, leading to limited standing-room-only viewing areas for the general public. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce lists the dates of each ceremony a week ahead of time on its website. They advise on the actual day of the event, general public should arrive as early as 9am. The Walk of Fame runs both sides of Hollywood Blvd. starting at the Silver Four Ladies of Hollywood Gazebo at La Brea Ave. to Gower St. in the east. It also runs both sides of Vine Street from Yucca St. in the north, south to Sunset Blvd.
