Schwarzenegger, Rob Reiner, Nancy Reagan pay respects to Oscar-winning thespian
He’ll always be a beloved Moses to a generation of TV-watchers. To others, Charlton Heston was a divisive figure whose consistent support of the National Rifle Association riled the public. Heston, an Oscar-winning actor, died at the age of 84 in his Beverly Hills home on April 5, 2008. On Saturday, April 12 2008, Sp an eclectic group of celebrities turned up to his funeral in Los Angeles to pay their respects. He was best known for his performance as Moses in Ten Commandments and won an Academy Award for his role in Ben-Hur. (He managed to be credible in The Planet of the Apes too.) California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and former first lady Nancy Reagan – escorted by Heston's former NRA colleague, Tom Selleck – were among some 300 mourners who attended a memorial. Oliver Stone who directed Heston in Any Given Sunday, attended, as did liberal campaigner Rob Reiner. Pat Boone, who worked with Heston on The Greatest Story Ever Told, Olivia de Havilland and Keith Carradine also turned up to the Episcopal Parish of St. Matthew, located in the tony Pacific Palisades. Heston regularly worshipped there. “Hit me baby one more time” has whole new meaningBecause the lives of so many hang in the balance it is our duty at Suite101 to report that Britney Spears has been in yet another car accident over the weekend. The pop star, who may or may not suffer from a mental illness, was involved in a minor traffic accident late Saturday. No one was injured and no vehicles were damaged, authorities said. According to The Associated Press, Spears was driving her 2008 Mercedes on the eastbound Ventura Freeway just east of the 405 freeway when the nighttime accident occurred, according to a California Highway Patrol Officer spokesperson Spears was in stop-and-go traffic when her car struck a 2006 Nissan in front of her that had stopped. The Nissan then pushed forward into another vehicle. No damage was noted to any of the vehicles. Celebrity junkies may remember that in 2006, Spears was photographed driving with her son on her lap. Then, a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge from a parking lot crash last summer was dismissed after she paid an undisclosed amount to the car's owner. In October, Spears pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid driver's license and later obtained a temporary California license. Spears is also battling for custody of her two young sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline. Spears, 26, has been out of news and out of trouble after undergoing psychiatric evaluation. She has stayed at Cedars-Sinai, the hospital to the stars, twice this year after her parents began to fear for her mental health.
