Lucas Till Fans Receive Answer to PrayersThe Lost and Found Family Released, Celebrity Christians Recognized
Hot on the heels of Hannah Montana: The Movie fame, Lucas Till takes on a new role as a foster child in Christian film.
Lucas Till impressed audiences in his role as the young Johnny “Jack” Cash in the Academy® Award-winning film Walk the Line. Young girls fell in love with Till (Travis) in Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009), immediately wanting to see more of the new teen heartthrob. Lucas Till fans’ prayers were answered with the September 15, 2009 release of The Lost and Found Family. Till’s role is not solely an answer to fans’ prayers, but is also an answer to the prayers of many Christian parents. With the diversity of material unsuitable for younger viewers found in many modern films, parents have asked for an increase in production of wholesome, family-friendly movies. In The Lost and Found Family, Till portrays Justin, one of five foster children living with two loving, but weary, foster parents. Life is hard, money is tight, and just when things couldn’t get any worse, a grieving former socialite (Ellen Bry, Young and the Restless, ) moves in. A Chicago socialite, Ester Hobbes is accustomed to the best of everything. When her husband dies unexpectedly and his business dealings leave her with nothing except a piece of rental property in Georgia, Ester is forced to leave her high life behind. Ester’s entry is not a welcome change. After all, who wants a live-in landlord? Despite an extremely rocky start, Ester begins to befriend the children, along with their foster parents. But when word comes that the house has been sold to a developer, the newly formed relationships are shattered. Hitting rock bottom, Ester cries out to God for help. Affirm Films, Provident Films, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, along with Barnet Bain (Director/producer) and Terry Collis (Producer) help fill the void in the film industry. Rated PG for its drug material and thematic elements, The Lost and Found Family depicts a touching story of hardship, change, and the faith that God can make even the most difficult situations better. Christian Characters Increase Along with Increased Christian Film ProductionDespite the opinions of some critics, increased production of films, and television series characters, depicting Christian characters might indicate a greater acceptance of religion than society would have us believe. ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager introduces audiences to Grace Bowman (Megan Park), a popular teen whose Christian values are widely expressed. Grace’s parents, played by John Schneider (Dukes of Hazard) and Josie Bissett (Melrose Place), teach their children that abstinence is the only choice when faced with sexual situations. However, Grace succumbs to the pressures of her boyfriend, Jack (Greg Finley). When her father is killed in a plane crash, Grace believes his death is punishment for her sin. But, as teens face in real life, the desires of the flesh do not disappear simply because we want them to. Grace’s struggles open the door for discussion about faith, forgiveness, death, and the never-ending love of Christ. Christians in HollywoodChristianity and movies merged bringing the religious genre out of the shadows when actor Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) filled the role of Buck Williams in the Could Ten Productions release of the Left Behind movies, based on the best-selling Left Behind (Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins) novel series. Along with Cameron, a number of Hollywood’s actors and actresses have stepped up, proclaiming their Christian faith, including Cameron’s sister Candice Cameron Bure (DJ Tanner on Full House), Steven Baldwin, Keshia Knight Pulliam (Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show), and Gavin MacLeod, among many others.
