Pink's Hot Dogs for Great Fast Food and Celebs

Hollywood Icon brings Los Angeles Tourists for Celebrity Sightings

Apr 3, 2009 Christina Gregoire

Pink's Hot Dogs has been a Hollywood icon since 1939. It's a destination for Los Angeles tourists, for locals, and for celebrity sightings.

LA is famous for fast food, but Pink's Hot Dogs has “slow” fast food. Are all those locals and Los Angeles tourists waiting in hour-long lines for the food, for celebrity sightings, or the weird thrill of being seen in the sausage center of the universe?

Pink’s Hot Dogs Hollywood Celebrity Sightings for Los Angeles Tourists

That scruffy guy in the long line might be a truck driver, an out of work actor, or an A-lister star who just came from filming a scene where he played an out of work actor.

The walls of this adorable “dive” are lined with photos of celebrities who pop in from time to time when they need their after-hours chili dog "fix".

(Pink's is open until 3 AM on weekends.)

Los Angeles Tourists Could Find Themselves in Line with Adam Sandler, Tori Spelling, Jay Leno. or Maybe Even Johnny Depp

  • Bruce Willis proposed to Demi Moore at Pink's.
  • Adam Sandler shows up at times and Johnny Depp loves the food.
  • Kiefer Sutherland has had Pink’s Hot Dogs flown over to him in Europe.
  • Matthew Perry from “Friends” was spotted in line.
  • Eddy Murphy has rolled up in his limo.
  • Oprah and Martha Stewart have both featured Pink’s Hot Dogs on their shows.

Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Snoop Dogg, Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Tori Spelling, Diana Ross, Bette Midler, and Richard Dreyfus are just a few of the celebs who love this place.

Many of the dogs are named for famous customers.

Pink’s – Are The Customers Lining Up for the Celebrity Sightings or for the Food?

The custom-made frankfurters are all-beef and made with a natural casing, so they snap with flavor when the customer bites into them. The dogs come with a fabulous combo of toppings.

The Top Sellers:

  • Stretch Chili Cheese Dog
  • Bacon Chili Cheese Dog
  • Mild Polish Dog
  • Spicy Polish Dog
  • Martha Stewart Dog
  • Planet Hollywood Dog
  • Chicago Polish Dog
  • Rosie O'Donnell Long Island Dog
  • Mullholland Drive Dog
  • Bacon Burrito Dog

Foodies at chowhound.com argue whether or not these really are the best dogs in Los Angeles, but there is no doubt that Pink’s has a huge following.

One blogger at yelp.com wrote, “Worth the 1 hour wait. I've had the Martha Stewart, the 3 Dog Night, the mushrooms on swiss, and the classic chili and cheese - so proud to have this fine dining institution here in LA.”

Pink's is located near the corner of Melrose and La Brea.

The following celebs have their pics on the wall or frequent pinks hot dogs: Martha Stewart, Rosie O'Donnell, Bruce Willis, Snoop Dog, Tori Spelling, Celine Dion, Bill Cosby, Tyra Banks, The Fonz (Henry Winkler), and Jennifer Garner. Others who have signed photos on the wall include: Jason Priestly, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, and Jay Leno.

Follow the long lines (like at Disneyland) to Pink’s Hot Dogs. Come hungry, but be prepared to wait. Los Angeles tourists should plan a detour to Pink’s. It’s great for potential celebrity sightings and a photo in front of this unlikely Hollywood Icon makes an offbeat souvenir.

Well, we've tried to eat at Pink's twice....last time we came to L.A. we couldn't find the place, and none of the locals seemed too eager to point us in the right direction. But...we found it this time, parked on the side of the road along with a dozen or so other cars, and fell in line with a whole crowd of others. We were pretty hungry, and the line was moving very slow. After about ten minutes of standing in line, we look back and realize to our dismay that every car on the whole street had disappeared, and ours was being towed! We got our car, but the city of L.A. slapped quite a hefty (and I mean hefty) fine on us. It would seem that you can't park on any of the streets after 4 p.m. now! Nobody bothered telling us! You would think that one of the Pink's employees would come out and tell people to move their cars, or at least announce it on the intercom. Apparently they just assumed that everyone already new....that the entire crowd outside of Pink's consisted of L.A. locals! This is a terrible assumption, considering that all of the L.A. locals I've talked to say that Pink's hot dogs aren't worth the hype. Pink's cost us $300 (no, I'm not kidding. $300 smackers for a lousy parking violation), and we never even got to eat any hot dogs! Beware if you go! Don't park on the street any time around 4 p.m. (P.S., at least Guitar Center was kind enough to announce the fact over their intercom)
