Just days after an inquest opened into Princess Diana's death, the Prince is chased by paparazzi.

Rare Royal Statement

When Prince William and Kate Middleton split in April 2007, the world was watching. The media speculated that the royal relationship ended because of the paparazzi. After all, rumors that the Prince planned to propose had sparked media scrutiny more than ever.

So when Prince William and Kate Middleton stepped out together in public on October 5th 2007 for the first time as a couple - again - the world was watching through the camera lenses of the paparazzi. And this time, Prince William reacted with a rare statement to the public.

“It seems incomprehensible, particularly at this time, that this behavior is still going on.”

William and Kate Go Clubbing

The night that he and Kate went out to a club, on their first public date since their April split, paparazzi chased them on motorbikes and on foot. They were photographed leaving the club, but that wasn’t enough for the paparazzi. Several photographers followed the couple as they left Boujis nightclub in South Kensington at 2 a.m. last Friday.

Paddy Harverson, the prince’s press secretary, said it was beyond belief that they should be pursued in such a way. The incident occurred as the London court continues to examine the events leading up to Princess Diana’s death.

“This aggressive pursuit was potentially dangerous, and worrying for them,” Harverson said.

After the prince’s complaint, many British tabloids decided not to publish the photos taken that night. The inquest into the Princess of Wales’ death in a car crash, after being chased by paparazzi, likely fueled this unusual decision.

Paparazzi Pursuit

In his statement, Prince William implied it was the pursuit by the paparazzi, and not the actual photographs, that upset him. The comeback of such a high-profile couple in public inspires flashing lightbulbs and clicking cameras anywhere. But the bad timing of a paparazzi chase of Princess Diana’s son has the royal family angry.

London’s Telegraph says the Prince and his girlfriend are considering taking legal action against the aggressive photographers that pursued them from the nightclub. The newspaper also says Prince William has mastered privacy laws, “after becoming angry at the way that some photographers have pursued Miss Middleton for the past two years in and around her London home”.

William and Kate were together again a few weeks after their April split. The couple has dated on and off for about five years. They met while attending St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. Kate Middleton is the daughter of self-made millionaires, and was raised in the south of England.
