Insight into the life of Susan Boyle, a Scottish singer and Britain's Got Talent contestant, who became a global phenomenon in just few days and continues to inspire.

Scottish international singing sensation Susan Boyle astounded the world with her Britain's Got Talent rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's musical Les Misérables, a stage adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel of the same title.

From a haunting song of the musical's character Fantine, Susan Boyle's timely rendition, while matching her incredible solid vocals, has blown away millions of people from all walks of life.

Susan Boyle's Brief Biography

Susan Margaret Boyle, a Scottish singer, was born on 1st April 1961, Blackburn in West Lothian, Scotland. She is the daughter of Patrick Boyle and Bridget, immigrants from Country Donegal, Ireland. Born when her mother was 47, she is the youngest of four brothers and six sisters.

Bullied by other children in childhood years, Susan had restrictions. In her adult life, she sacrificed her aspirations to devote her time taking care of her mother who passed away in 2007. She is also a tireless volunteer for her local church. In all this, Susan Boyle must have held her one passion firm in her heart, a desire to be a professional singer.

Susan Boyle and Britain's Got Talent

She came into worldwide public attention after appearing as a contestant in Britain's Got Talent's first round competition which was broadcast on 11 April 2009 in the United Kingdom. She was favoured to win and a winner in the eyes of the world, however, in the BGT final's third series Susan Boyle took the second place, behind dance troupe Diversity.

Who knows, perhaps what triggered global interest was the audience's first impression as contrasted to the overwhelming ovation she received after singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables. The three judges, Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, were awed. People who never knew about the existence of Britain's Got Talent (BGT) nor hardly watched the videos trekked by the millions to view Susan Boyle's performance in YouTube.

The rest is history. From obscurity to becoming a wonderstar, Susan Boyle has millions of adoring fans, admirers, and more so, commercial enterprises watching her every move as they stand to benefit from her talents. At any rate, BGT should be appreciated for having discovered her and having given her the chance to prove her worth.
