Who is in the New Michael Jackson Movie

Details on the Cast and Crew of this New Documentary

Oct 3, 2009 Sarah Zahn

Starting October 28, 2009, Michael Jackson's adoring fans will experience a documentary with new footage of the singer's final days.

Hours of footage were recorded as Michael Jackson rehearsed his highly anticipated comeback concert. He was scheduled to perform a sold-out, fifty show run at London's 02 arena. The show was to open July 13, 2009 and begin what was hoped to be a world-wide, three year tour.

A few minutes of that footage was immediately released when he died just three weeks before his show was to open. The other hundred hours were purchased by Sony Pictures for a reported $60 million. Now Sony hopes to recapture that investment by releasing a two hour long documentary titled This is It. It features interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and rehearsals of the show that was never performed for a live audience.

Who is in This is It

At the time of this publication, only two names are credited as being part of the cast according to the Internet Movie Database. The first, of course, is Michael Jackson. The other is a female lead guitarist named Orianthi. She is an Australian-born Greek musician who has worked with artists such as Carrie Underwood, Steve Vai and Carlos Santana. It’s unclear as to why she is the only other person credited as being a member of the cast.

Who Put the Michael Jackson Movie Together

The real work for putting this film together fell on the five editors, who had to sift through the 100+ hours of rehearsal footage in order to give it continuity and flow in the proper documentary style.

A huge behind-the-scenes crew is also credited, many of whom were responsible for running the actual concert performance. An astounding number of crew members were in charge of running the cameras and visual effects. Nearly seventy people are credited in these two categories alone.

The director is listed as Kenny Ortega, who has worked as a choreographer for Jackson and also was the creative director for his highly televised memorial service. Ortega's other credits include the High School Musical movies and several episodes of The Gilmore Girls.

Footage of Michael Jackson’s Rehearsals Used in an Unexpected Way

It’s clear that the footage of this documentary was intended for use in some way or another. The sheer number of crew responsible for capturing the rehearsal process makes that very clear. It is unfortunate, however, that in the end it was to be used as a farewell project, to help celebrate the life of one of history’s most famous performers.

Tickets are already on sale for this film’s limited-run. Find out where to buy tickets and more information about the global gala surrounding the film’s premiere. The film premieres in select cities on October 27, 2009 and officially opens to the public on October 28.
