Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal survive fire in holiday lodge

Yes, I am derelict in my duties to posting on suite! Here's why: I've been in Toronto for two weeks and for the last few days I've been knocked out by a stomach flu. That, coupled with being five months preggers, and, well, it hasn't been a pretty picture.

Healthier now, I'm back online this morning pondering the celebrity world again. New Year's Eve is around the corner and I'm thinking about the year past and the year to come - always with a celebrity angle of course.

It's been a year of actor philanthropy, break-ups, adoptions, fire-crotch sightings and so much more. But there's also been a fair bit of trauma and heartache around the world (and no, I'm not talking about Hollywood).

Closer to home, earlier this week Jake Gyllenhaal and his sister, Maggie, were forced out of their holiday lodge by an early morning fire. At Manka's Inverness Lodge in Marin County, apparently a tree crashed into the back of the buiding and started a fire that destroyed the main structure.

About a dozen or guests dashed from the fire into a windy and rainy night. Actress Francess McDormand (who won an Oscar for her role in Fargo) was there with her hubby, Joel Coen. No one was injured.

There's so much more to say about 2006 and what to expect in 2007.... I'll be back in Cali in a week , closer to the action.

Stay well, stay safe, and Happy New Year.
